RESTAURANTS in Hampshire and the south-east are proving that they can handle the financial heat in the kitchen, according to insolvency experts R3.

They say that restaurants are in fact the most improved sector in the south-east, and there has been a 3.4 per cent reduction in the proportion of businesses with a high risk of insolvency since July.

The group added that restaurants may also get a welcome boost when the PSP Southampton Boat Show launches this Friday.

Andrew Watling, chairman of the Southern Committee of R4, said: “This is positive news for restaurateurs and we could see a further boost for those in and around Southampton throughout September as the PSP Southampton Boat Show brings thousands of visitors to the city.

“It will be important for restaurant business owners to take advantage of this golden opportunity to see them through the traditionally more quiet month of October and into the swinging Christmas party season.”
