THIEVES have stolen a banner advertising a Hampshire scarecrow festival.
St John’s Church, in Alresford, put the banners at each end of the town bypass at the weekend to promote the festival on September 26-28.
But by yesterday morning, the banner at the Ropley end, worth £50, had gone.
The festival, which will raise money towards St John’s roof appeal, opens on Friday in the church, with displays from 2-6pm.
On Saturday people have the chance to vote for their favourite scarecrows at sites around the town.
There will be a prize-giving on Sunday by the Scarecrow Uke Band in the churchyard. The festival closes at 6pm with a peal of bells.
Entry forms are available from the parish office on 01962 733545.
