IT took jurors just 15 minutes to convict a Southampton man of theft.

They decided Jamie Green was one of four people who took part in a night-time burglary at Tesco Express in Cobden Avenue, Southampton.

Prosecutor Nicholas Tucker told the city crown court how CCTV captured a man climbing over a fence and into the yard before letting in three accomplices.

The four then targeted steel cages containing disused alcohol stock. They ripped away industrial clingfilm from the contents of each cage and made off with alcohol valued at £1,700.

The system was unable to identify any of the intruders but Green’s fingerprints were found on discarded clingfilm.

When arrested, he denied taking part in the break-in and said he had no idea how his fingerprints came to be on the clingfilm.

Green, 21, of Challis Court, Southampton, was further remanded on bail pending sentence on October 10, but was warned by Judge Nicholas Rowland he faced a potential prison sentence.

He said: “You have been convicted on overwhelming evidence. This was a planned and sophisticated attack.”

The court heard that none of the others involved had been caught.
