HUNDREDS of people have been showing their respects to Olympic sailor Andrew ‘Bart’ Simpson MBE by high fiving a life-sized cut out of him at the PSP Southampton Boat Show.

The 36-year-old lost his life in a training accident in San Francisco bay in May last year while preparing for the America’s Cup competition. He was one of 11 crew members on board the Artemis Racing catamaran that capsized, trapping him under the water.

This week a life-sized cardboard cut out of the dad-of-two has been at the PSP Southampton Boat Show, which is supporting The Andrew Simpson Sailing Foundation which was set up in his memory.

The One Show’s Matt Baker, who opened the boat show, and Hampshire sailing legends Sir Ben Ainslie and Sir Robin Knox-Johnston have been among those who have taken a photograph of themselves high fiving the cut-out in support of the sailor and the show’s only official charity.
