FIREFIGHTERS were called into action in the early hours of this morning after a blaze broke out in a Hampshire home.

Crews from Hightown and St Mary’s Fire Stations tackled the fire, which started in the bedroom of a semi-detached home in Birch Wood in Thornhill.

There was one man inside the house who was led to safety by firefighters, using breathing apparatus.

He was taken to Southampton General Hospital by ambulance, but the extent of his injuries is not yet known.

The investigation into the fire which started at 1.52am revealed that the blaze was likely to have been caused by smoking materials left in one of the bedrooms.
