BUDDING stars of the future took centre stage in a bid to win the ultimate prize – a role in a new Glee-inspired television show.

Around 70 young hopefuls packed auditions for the chance to bag the leading role in a new drama set to be pitched to the BBC.

But despite the impressive turnout, the Youngstar film and television drama school, that is offering the roles said more children were still needed to fill the one remaining lead part.

There will be another chance to fill that role, as well as other smaller roles when casting returns to Hampshire next month.

The school is behind the new drama Born Famous, which is inspired by the American hit show Glee, which depicts the lives of pupils in a high school and incorporates singing, acting and dancing.

An open casting session was held at Wildern School in Hedge End for children aged seven to 18 years old who took part in a workshop.

One of those who turned up for the auditions was Jazmine Ohiwerei, seven, of Sholing, who was celebrating after being offered a leading role in the drama, along with a scholarship to attend Youngstar in order to work with the Youngstar members who will also feature in the show.

Louisa Baxman, who founded the school, said: “She is really talented, she’s a really good little singer and dancer.”

The remaining lead role is for an older performer, particularly aged between 16 and 18. Auditions will be held next month.

Written by Adrian Hewitt, who was also behind children’s adventure series M.I. High, the new show will be filmed at locations around Hampshire.

The drama and its songs will first be released online and then put forward to bosses at CBBC.
