THEY haven't even made it onto the dance floor yet but Hampshire's Strictly star has already won the first public vote.

Scott Mills and his dance partner Joanne Clifton have made it onto the front of the first ever Radio Times cover voted for by the people.

Without even the first box steps or volta's being thrown on the ballroom floor, the Radio One DJ who grew up in Eastleigh has fought off competition from his Strictly Come Dancing 2014 competitors, including Pixie Lott and Judy Murray.

In the 91-year history of Radio Times, it is the first time the cover star has been chosen by a public vote.

Scott, who is patterned with Joanne - sister of pro dancer Kevin from Grimsby - triumphed with 30 per cent of the vote.

Mrs Brown's Boys actress Jennifer Gibney came a close second, scooping 25 per cent of the 214,000 votes cast during the last week.

In a message to all those who have supported him so far Scott said: "Thank you so much for voting for us for the Radio Times front cover. I can't actually believe it.

"I am pleased, Jo is really pleased and my mum loves it.

"So thank you very much and we will try our best for you. We're going to be awesome this weekend on Strictly."

The contestants perform their first dances this weekend on BBC1.
