POLICE have renewed an appeal for witnesses following a serious incident on a Hampshire motorway.

Officers from Hampshire Constabulary's road policing unit have issued the renewed appeal for information following an incident that occurred after a collision on the on-slip to junction six of the M3 at Basingstoke.

The drivers of a flat bed van and trailer and a VW Golf pulled onto the hard shoulder, got out of their vehicles, and exchanged words.

The car triver went back to his vehicle and, as he tried to get into it, the van pulled out from behind him and passed him.

The vehicle clipped his legs, leaving him with serious injuries.

The van driver did not stop and carried on along the M3.

The man was taken to North Hampshire Hospital by ambulance.

As reported, the incident happened on September 16.

PC Clyde Jerrard said: “The van is described as being similar in size to a Ford Tranist flat bed but the cab was completely flat at the front and more square.

“It was plain white and had no distinctive markings or livery. The bed of the van was similar to that of a recovery truck with no sides on the bed and made of aluminium.”

He added: “the trailer was of the same appearance and material as the bed of the van but sat a couple of inches lower.

"It was a twin axle trailer with one mud guard over both wheels each side. The driver had to climb down from the cab from a height of approximately 4 foot.”

“The incident left a man, in his 60s, with some serious leg injuries. It’s possible that the van driver was not aware that the man was injured.-and we’d like to trace him urgently. We’d appeal to anyone with information to contact us.”

Anyone with any information is asked to contact PC Jerrard at Whitchurch by calling 101 or call Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111, where information can be left anonymously.
