A HOUSE has been evacuated and a city road closed after a fire broke out in a loft.
Four appliances from Hampshire Fire & Rescue rushed to the home in Lodge Road, Southampton, after the blaze broke out at around 4.15pm.
An aerial platform was used to tackle the flames and the road remains closed, causing traffic chaos with First Hampshire and Bluestar both announcing delays and diversions for its bus services.
No one was injured in the blaze, which was opposite the Bent Brief Pub.
The fire was contained to the loft, which was totally destroyed by the flames.
Appliances attended from St Marys, Redbridge, Portchester and Cosham stations and breathing apparatus was used.
An investigation is underway into the cause of the blaze but officials have said it is still too early to tell.
