SHE beat cancer and now a popular singer and her newly reformed band join the fight against the deadly disease.

Kim Hussey made a full recovery after receiving the shock diagnosis that she had breast cancer last year.

The 52-year-old and her band, Hazy Dayz, are holding a fundraising gig at AFC Totton this month to support the Breast Cancer Care charity.

The mum-of-three was diagnosed with breast cancer in November last year and successfully underwent surgery and radiotherapy.

She was only made aware of the cancer after attending a one off mammogram and Kim, who was given the all clear in April this year, admits she very nearly gave the appointment a miss.

Kim said she was supported by her husband Tim and daughters Laura, Samantha and Daisy 19.

She said: “We want to give something back because the treatment I received at Southampton General Hospital’s oncology ward was superb.

“October is Breast Cancer Awareness month too so we decided to hold the event.

“It was a massive shock for me – the diagnosis came out of nowhere.

“I was diagnosed after my first mammogram. I nearly didn’t go that day. I didn’t know I had a lump or anything wrong with me.

“My message to women is to have screenings – they are for us and they save lives.

“My family were amazing and the support from my friends was incredible.”

Hazy Dayz reformed after attending a school reunion and will be covering pop songs from the 60s up to the present day during the concert, which takes place on October 25.

There will be an auction on the evening and a big bear prize has been donated by Costco Southampton.

The band is also on the look out for businesses and organisations to donate prizes for the evening.Kim added: “AFC Totton has been amazing. They are providing all the food for the night and they are really behind us.”
