RESIDENTS will get their first glimpse of a controversial new Hampshire development that saw them take to the streets in protest.

Plans for 250 homes at Bursledon were met with anger when it was given the green light by councillors last year.

Now developers are putting the more detailed plans before the public in an exhibition.

This will show the first stage in their plans which is for the first 192 homes, 67 of which will be affordable homes, sited off Pylands Lane.

The overall development will include a children’s play area and areas of open space.

But these homes along with another proposed development provoked a mass protest through the streets of Botley back in February last year that saw hundreds of people voice their anger in vain at the plans.

Councillors gave both proposals outline permission that month.

The other development, for 1,400 homes near Boorley Green, is the subject of a judicial review next month after campaigners took their battle to the High Court.

The plans on show for this site also include the design of the Sunday Hills Bypass, which councillors also gave permission for and developers say will help with existing traffic problems.

Ashill Developments says it has been working with Eastleigh Borough on the plans and is committed to giving the |community the chance to have their say before making its application.

Managing director Steve Lavers said: “We are committed to bringing forward the Pylands Lane site with a high quality, sensitively designed scheme which will respect the local area and its surroundings.

“Having worked with the community to bring forward the outline plans for the site, we are very aware of the level of interest in this site and that local people have very strong opinions.

“We are genuinely keen to work with the local community in developing our plans and would like to encourage people to come along to our exhibition so we can hear the views of local residents and feed them into our plans, where possible.”

The public exhibition showing phase one of the development will be at Bursledon Village Hall, in Long Lane, today, from 4pm to 8pm.
