WHAT do you need to get rid of a huge crane? An even bigger crane, of course.

More than 102m high, the enormous structure was put up at Admirals Quay in Southampton yesterday.

It was used to dismantle the 92m high crane that has been involved in the construction of Southampton’s tallest residential building, the 26-storey Moresby Tower.

Developer Bouygues had to get permission from Southampton Airport to put up the new crane, due to the proximity of the Ocean Village site to the flight path.

The 500-tonne Liebherr mobile crane, which was dismantled again within hours, is one of only 12 in the country.

As well as Moresby Tower, Admirals Quay also contains another two buildings, and will deliver 299 new apartments in total.

The final block is due to be completed by December.
