POLICE, sniffer dogs and forensics teams have descended on a city home as part of a major search operation.

Residents spoke of their shock as dozens of police officers swooped on the Southampton address last night.

An area behind the property on Bursledon Road in Southampton, has been taped off and searched, as well as the house.

Daily Echo:

Neighbours said dozens of police officers descended on the area last night between 4pm and 5pm - bursting through garden fences to access the home from all directions.

Today, there was still a heavy police presence and officers have now taped off a wooded area behind the house.

A mum-of-three who lives nearby said: “We've never had anything like this before.

“It's quite shocking because there are lots of children in the area and we don't know what's in that house.

Daily Echo:

“The police said they were looking for stolen goods but why would they need armed police for that?

“It was like something from out of the movies.”

Police said 10 members of Hampshire Constabulary search team arrived on the scene at about 11.30am after 'a find' in woodlands opposite Costa Coffee in Bursledon Road.

Forensic officers have been seen leaving the area this afternoon with bags containing evidence.

The cordon is expected to be enlarged later today as part of a wider search.

Residents in the area have spoken of their unease about the lack of information provided by police about what has been found.

One, a mum-of-five said: “I came back home last night and found police everywhere. I am worried because I have five children.

"Even though there are police everywhere, I don’t feel safe. They are not saying anything.”

At 3.40pm, a police spokesperson issued a statement.

It said: "Officers executed a search warrant at an address on Bursledon Road in Southampton on the afternoon of Thursday, November 20 as part of an investigation into stolen property.

"The search is still ongoing as it has been extended to include the immediate area around the property including a wooded area adjoining it.

"No arrests have been made."
