HAMPSHIRE police are continuing to investigate a burglary at the home of Southampton midfielder Victor Wanyama had his home burgled while he was away playing for Saints.

The 23-year-old Kenyan starred for his side as they battled to a 1-1 draw against Aston Villa in the Midlands on Monday night.

However, whilst he was on the field, thieves raided his home in Winchester.

Thieves are believed to have taken electrical goods, furniture, designer clothing, jewellery, around 30 pairs of shoes, and his car, a Ranger Rover Sport, estimated to be worth around £60,000.

The car was later recovered in Buckinghamshire.

Mr Wanyama discovered the burglary when he returned home after the match A source close to the player was quoted in Kenyan media as saying: “It seems the thieves had ample time considering he was not in the house. They turned the house upside down and he is still in shock. The police have been called in and investigations have started.”

Hampshire police believe the burglary happened sometime between 8:30am on Sunday and 2:15am yesterday.

The Daily Echo understands that Southampton FC work with their players to advise them on their personal security and take a number of extra precautions to help them keep themselves and their property as safe as possible.

The club did not want to comment on the incident.
