FOUR people had to be cut from vehicles after two pile-ups involving 11 vehicles just seven miles apart.

The two pile ups between junctions three and four of the M27 and on the A31 at Stoney Cross saw six people injured and four rushed to Southampton General Hospital last night.

A man had to be cut from his car by firefighters and taken to after a four-vehicle pile-up on the A31 before 10pm.

A woman who was travelling in another car was treated at the scene by paramedics.

The road was closed while emergency services were at the scene.

Another three people had to be cut from their vehicles and four were taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries after a second crash.

South Central Ambulance service reported that three casualties had possible back injuries.

The crash involved seven vehicles across three westbound lanes of the motorway between junctions three and four at 10.15pm.

The ambulance service's Hazardous Area Response Team (HART), three ambulance crews and an ambulance officer were at the scene.

Around 18 firefighters from Hampshire Fire and Rescue Service attended each collision.

The M27 becomes the A31 less than one and half miles from the first crash.
