A BRAVE teenager fought off a man who attacked her while walking at night in a Hampshire town.

The 19-year-old victim was set upon in a neighbourhood in Fareham.

Now police appealing for witnesses into the incident are warning people to take care while walking after dark in the county.

The young woman was making her way from St Ann’s Grove to Bishopfield Road when a man dressed in dark clothing approached.

He pushed her to the ground and assaulted her.

The terrified teenager managed to break free from his clutches and run away.

She is believed to have been uninjured in the attack.

Detective sergeant Steve Toms said: “We are in the early stages of our investigation and are still following up a number of lines of enquiry. Currently the motive of the attack is unknown.

“We’re working closely with the victim to establish exactly where the attack took place “As always, I would urge people to be vigilant, especially when walking alone during the hours of darkness. If you see anything suspicious, call the police.”
