A HAMPSHIRE neighbourhood is being transformed into a winter wonderland this afternoon.

Hundreds of people are expected to descend on the streets of Harefield for a very special festive parade, with Father Christmas and his elves.

Youngsters from the area have been busy making costumes and fabulously festive accessorises to wear for the Winter Wonderland Parade through the estate, which leaves Woodlands Community College at 5pm.

It will tour around the Fritham Road and Bentley Green area of the estate, complete with Christmas music, dancing, Father Christmas and his helpers giving out treats.

Local residents are invited to come out and show their support, and families who would like to walk with the parade can wear a Christmassy costume and meet at Woodlands Community College at 4.30pm.

The community are also asked to help make this a fun and safe community event by keeping the area as clear of traffic and parked cars as possible for the parade, and driving slowly in the area during the event.

There may be a slight disturbance to traffic from 5-6pm in the Fritham Road area while the parade goes round. PCSO's from Bitterne police station will be accompanying the parade.

The event has been organised by SO18 Big Local, in partnership with Twics, Woodlands Community College and Lovell, and with support from Bitterne Police.

It is the finale of a series of Christmas events organised by the group, including a grotto, Christmas craft and children's activities Anyone wanting more information can call or text 07528 338104.
