HUNDREDS of people are expected to attend a memorial today for two teenagers killed in a road crash.

Abbey Rogers and Lily Butterfield- Godwin, both 19 and from Lyndhurst, died a week ago on Saturday after the car they were travelling in hit a wall in the village in the early hours.

Their deaths sent shockwaves through the community where they lived and worked and have also sparked a safety probe to see if improvements need to be made on Gosport Road following the crash.

Today, hundreds of people are expected to turn out at a memorial service to the girls, who were best friends and who shared the same birthday.

Family, friends and well-wishers are set to attend the 3pm service at Bolton’s Bench, where balloons will be released in the teenagers’ honour.

Abbey had worked as a stylist at the Velvet Rooms in Lymington while Lily was a nanny at Teddies Nursery in Southampton. Their colleagues at both workplaces told how they have been left devastated by their loss.

Colleagues of the two talented teenage girls killed in the latenight crash have spoken of their devastation at the deaths.

Louise Purdy, owner of the Velvet Rooms, says Abbey had a “natural flare” and was very popular with clients.

She said: “She took to hairdressing like a stylist with ten years’ experience.

Within a month of working with us Abbey definitely became a leading member of staff – she was bubbly, very professional, and loved her job and her clients. She was a massive character in our salon.

“All the girls are completely devastated and now we have reopened it’s obvious to anyone there is a massive hole in our team that can never be replaced.

“As a team we are proud to have known her, loved her, and shared some amazing memories with her.”

Zoe Andrews, manager at Teddies Nursery, described Lily as being a valued and “inspirational” member of staff.

She said: “Lily was a talented childcare professional whose passion for her work and for making a difference shone out from her. Lily had worked for Bright Horizons for nearly two years as one of our valued apprentices.

“She made a huge difference to the nursery and was inspirational to her colleagues and friends.”

Police are continuing to investigate the one-vehicle crash, which also involved a 21-year-old male driver and a 19-year-old female passenger who both remain in hospital.
