THEY are traditional tipples that go hand in hand with the festive season.

The Daily Echo picks out our top 10 favourite festive drinks whether sitting at home in front of the fire or out at a party.

How many of these have you enjoyed this holiday season?

1. Eggnog

The classic festive drink, not much more says Christmas than the sweet, dairy-based traditionally made with milk, cream, sugar and eggs.

2. Mulled wine

Another favourite at this time of year, a warm glass of spiced wine is never too hard to find.

3. Snowball

This suitably-white mixture of advocaat and lemonade is often a favourite on Christmas Day.

4. Gluhwein

A German variation on mulled wine that you'll be able to pick up at any German market and will warm you throughout the evening.

5. Port

Some people will drink Port throughout the year but many will only buy or receive a bottle once every 12 months.

6. Cointreau

Christmas and New Year's are fine occasions to crack out the spirits that might otherwise stay in the cupboard.

7. Sherry

Again, the sweet, fortified wine often stays in its bottle all year round until it's time for a small glass (or two) at Christmas.

Daily Echo:

8. Champagne

You may have enjoyed a glass or two at weddings or birthdays throughout the year - but for many their only glass of bolly may come at New Year's.

9. Wassail

This warming favourite featuring cloves, allspice and cinnamon can feature cider or be non-alcoholic and is the perfect way to stay warm on a chilly winter evening.

10. Baileys

Rounding off our festive list is this cream and whiskey liquor, a sure fire festive favourite.
