A FORMER BBC South weather girl has secretly married former Pakistani cricket captain turned-politician, it has been reported.

The 62-year-old politician has reportedly confirmed that he has wed 41-year-old divorced mother-of-three Reham Khan, who moved to Pakistan to become a TV news reader after working on South Today.

The news comes just days after his own family claimed that he had denied it, following rumours of their marriage which sparked a major political storm.

On New Year's Eve, Mr Khan said rumours of marriage were “greatly exaggerated” and his sister Aleema said the family challenged him over the news and he denied it.

News of the union sparked outrage in Pakistan but his sister claimed that it was a rumour being spread by his political opponents, who it is claimed object to her being a divorced mother who was also filmed performing the tango on TV.

But at Heathrow airport he is reported to have said: “I am going to Pakistan to share good news about my marriage with the nation. I have nothing to hide.”

Mr Khan's Tehreek-e-Insaf party currently holds the third largest bloc of seats in the country's parliament.

The former cricketer divorced heiress Jemima Goldsmith in 2004, after nine years of marriage In recent days Reham used the social networking site Twitter to send a message to her followers after finding herself at the centre of the political storm. She said: “Thank you for all your messages of support via my website, in particular Muhammed Umer, PJ & Nikos Yozzer. Much appreciated.”

In other messages she says: “I'm saying that maligning a woman's character & her young children isn't journalism or moral” and “Trust me this should go down as one of the best examples of bad journalism”.

She was born in Libya to Pakistani parents and has three children from her previous marriage to a doctor.

Reham joined the BBC in 2008 and became a popular figure on South Today presenting the weather.

She also dedicated her time to good causes like Women and Ethnic representation in the police force.

Before that, she worked for Legal TV and was a breakfast presenter for a local radio station.

She worked for the BBC for four-and-a-half-years before she decided to resign in 2012, moving to Pakistan to cover the historical 2013 Pakistani General Elections.

She joined NewsOne in January 2013 and soon after she was presenting the 8pm programme on AAJ TV.

In July 2014 she moved on, making guest appearances and briefly taking up a position with PTV.

She is currently working at Dawn News hosting In Focus.
