A SOUTHAMPTON temple is celebrating the work of people who have helped to make their community a greater place.

As part of the celebrations of the birthday of the 10th Sikh guru Gobind Singh Ji, members of the community will be recognised for their services to the community at Gurdwara Guru Tegh Bahadur Sahib Ji, St Marks Road.

Officers from Hampshire police as well as Southampton City Council will be recognised for their work in the St Mary’s community.

David Roath, of the gurdwara, said: “This is to celebrate those who have played their part in the Sikh community here in St Mary’s.

“This is the first year we have done this but I think it’s time the gurdwara recognised the efforts that these people make.”

Community leaders such as Police and Crime Commissioner Hants & IOW, Simon Hayes, Chief Superintendent of Hampshire police, James Fulton and representatives of Southampton City Council and other congregational members are expected to attend the event tomorrow.

The event begins at 11.30am.
