A DAILY Echo appeal to raise money for the RSPCA after nine dogs were horrifically abandoned has raised more than £4,000 in less than a week.

It was launched last Wednesday after a family of poodle-crosses were found dumped in the countryside in appalling condition.

The story hit international headlines and sickened animal lovers have come together to smash the appeal target of £3,000, so far raising £4,022.77.

There have been donations from across the world, including from Canada, and people have left heartfelt messages for the pups.

The dogs are currently under RSPCA care at various centres across Hampshire, and are receiving treatment for dehydration and skin problems.

Vets were concerned about the state of one of the animals, named Kate, who they said was depressed and not eating or drinking.

As reported, yesterday RSPCA inspector Jan Edwards said she has a “twinkle in her eye again” and tests were expected to be done to find out why she was unable to stand or walk.

The dogs were found near Winchester and their fur was so badly matted and caked in filth they were unable to see, stand or walk.

Now all nine are recovering and the city council and RSPCA continue to hunt for the owner.
