KEEPING the memory alive was the theme of the commemorations to mark Holocaust Memorial Day in Southampton.
Yesterday saw ceremonies take place across the world to mark the 70th anniversary of the liberation of Auschwitz.
In Southampton dignitaries gathered to mark the occasion with an event jointly organised by Southampton Solent University and the University of Southampton.
Held at the Solent University Conference Centre, Above Bar Street, the commemorations featured testimony from Holocaust survivor Arieh Simonsohn, music and drama performances from members of the local community, and the lighting of commemorative candles.
The event also included an exhibition showcasing local sixth form students’ responses to the Holocaust, including students from Itchen Sixth Form College.
