A SOUTHAMPTON man died two days after collapsing while drinking at a house in the city, a Winchester inquest heard.
Paramedics were called to the address in Cranbury Avenue on the evening of October 29 last year.
They took Ian Roddie to Southampton General Hospital, but he never recovered consciousness.
Post-mortem tests found that the 47-year-old had been suffering from pneumonia and had cocaine in his urine at the time of his death, which would have been taken at some point before his collapse.
Mr Roddie, of Millbrook Road, also had higher than usual levels of a strong hospital sedative drug in his blood, which Monday’s inquest heard was probably caused by his failing organs being unable to process it.
Central and southern Hampshire senior coroner Grahame Short said that Mr Roddie would have been susceptible to pneumonia because of his lifestyle, and recorded a verdict of death due to natural causes.
