A SOUTHAMPTON shop owner has spoken of the moment he was threatened with a knife in a terrifying daylight robbery.

Clive Fogg who owns tobacconist W White in London Road was working behind the counter of the historic business when the incident happened.

He told how the robber was browsing in the shop, before walking behind the counter pulling out a knife and ordering him to open the till.

The robber took £200 from the till and ran towards the High Street.

Daily Echo:

Clive, 69, said: “When someone has a knife in their hands and points it at you, I believe he is prepared to use it. You just don’t expect it to happen to you.”

Clive is known to many who buy tobacco in the city for his politeness and the way he calls customers sir or madam.

He has run the business for 18 years. It was previously owned by John White.

Police are appealing for witnesses who saw the incident, which happened at 3.11pm on Monday to call 101.
