IT’S not just Saints’ stylish football on the pitch that has raised eyebrows.

The Southampton team’s impressive array of haircuts is sparking a style revolution in the city.

Fashion-conscious men are now flocking to a city hairdressers crying out to look like one of the famous Premier League stars.

Equinox Gentleman’s Refinery in Oxford Street is where nine of Ronald Koeman’s squad are regulars for a short, back and sides.

And it is there that footy fans are descending in their hunt for a new look – whether it’s a ‘Pelle’, a ‘Toby’ or even a ‘Fonte’, all styles named after players.

The list of trend-setting players that owner Kerri Beale and her team style and cut includes Jose Fonte, Dusan Tadic, Morgan Schneiderlin and Graziano Pelle.

Others to sit in the stylist’s chair include James Ward- Prowse, Kelvin Davis, Harrison Reed, Toby Alderweireld and Fraser Forster.

Kerri, 41, said: “Every day there is always someone coming in and asking for a Pelle. The haircut was around before Pelle, but everyone in the football industry seems to think it is his.

“I do Morgan Schneiderlin’s hair and people come in and ask for a Schneiderlin – but to me it’s just a normal haircut.”

She said that the pickiest Saints player to have his hair cut is Italian striker Pelle.

Kerri, who has owned the salon for 12 years, said: “The other lads are very much laid back about it, but I know with Pelle that his hair means a lot to him.”

She also remembers cutting former boss Mauricio Pochettino’s hair and described how he and his entourage had a song and a dance.

The Saints’ stars styles, which can cost from £27 each, are what Kerri describes as a throwback to the 1940s and 50s era.

A dramatic transformation

Daily Echo:

Saints fan Harry Usborne jumped at the opportunity to look like one of his football heroes.

The 21-year-old Southampton Solent University student underwent a dramatic transformation and had a ‘Pelle’ haircut.

Harry writes...

I’VE never really paid attention to my hair in the morning, so my first thought on getting my hair done in the slick, preened style of Saints’ own Graziano Pelle was: “Oh wow, what am I doing?”

On entering Equinox Gentleman’s Refinery, in Oxford Street, Southampton, my concerns were swept away by the lovely top hat-sporting owner, Kerri Beale, who assured me that all nine of the Saints players who frequent the vintage salon walk away satisfied.

Kerri began by shaping my mess of hair; spraying it with water from an upcycled Jack Daniels bottle, and cutting the sides with expert precision.

After a bit of top texturing, and some strokes of the cutthroat razor, the Pelle was starting to take shape.

Daily Echo:

Next was a thorough drying, and once some specialist cream had been run through my hair, all it took was a quick comb before the suave silhouette of the Southampton striker’s ’do was sat upon
my head.

When the cut was complete I could hardly believe the difference – I felt like a dappergent ready to impress my friends and take on whatever the world could throw my way.

But whether the hairstyle of Pelle helps me find my form in my weekly six-a-side footy game with my mates, well that remains to be seen.
