Colleagues of a nursery nurse have organised a fundraising event in her memory.
Leanne McDowell (pictured below) was just 36 when she lost her battle with breast cancer last July. She had worked for 14 years at Sunrise Day Nursery, based at Southampton City College.
Tonight’s Valentine’s ball, at the college’s Hub venue, has been organised as a thank you to the doctors who cared for her. More than £800 has already been raised for Southampton General Hospital.
Nursery deputy manager Rebecca Simmons said: “We’re a bit of a family here so we wanted to do something for Leanne. For her 40th birthday she wanted to have a big ball, so that’s why we did this.”
