If your idea of a beauty regime is normally just a splash of water combined with a bit of soap when you're really making an effort, read on.

Here we speak to male grooming experts Kerri Beale and Claire Heenan, of Equinox Gentleman's Refinery in Southampton's Oxford Street.

Why do guys need to start paying attention to male grooming before their big day?

Those photos will be on display for years to come so put some planning into it. Girls do, so there's no reason guys shouldn't.

When should men have their hair cut?

Sometimes we get guys who switch hairdressers and come in at the last minute. Don't do that! Give us a trial a couple of months before so we can get the hair just right. Once you get what you want have it cut the week before so it has time to settle down before the day. Often we get guys coming in on the morning of the wedding to have their hair styled so it's just right and they can just put on their suit and show up.

What about shaving?

We specialise in traditional hot towel shaving which a lot of men go for but again give it a trial! The last thing you want is to leave it to the day if you haven't wet shaved for two years then come out in a rash! Once trialed, guys enjoy coming down on the morning of their big day with the boys. We have a TV, games and drinks which often settles those jitters.

Should I go for something really trendy?

Some guys come in and say 'do what you want' the day before the wedding but consult the Mrs! Don't try anything too drastic and be true to your personality. The classic styles are timeless.

How about beauty treatments?

Men go down for facials, pedicures, manicures, massages, the lot. At the end of the day there are quite a few close-ups of hands for the ring shots in the wedding pictures so for men it's just as important.
