DETAILS of the death of a young Southampton mum, whose disappearance sparked a massive police search, have been revealed.

The body of Charlene McCluskey, 29, was found last Thursday night by police officers searching dense woodland near Southampton Common, just off the Avenue.

It came a week after she went missing after leaving work as a barmaid at the Richmond Inn pub and calling 101 in a distressed state and sparking a major search.

The inquest into her death opened today in Winchester and has been adjourned until May 13.

It has been listed as 'self-harm' and the coroner's officer said the cause of death is hanging but he could not give any more details.

As reported by the Daily Echo there have been hundreds of heartfelt tributes.

Charlene friends have set up an online appeal to help her heartbroken family with funeral costs and provide for her two sons, aged eight and 12.

The Just Giving appeal has so far raised £2,111, more than four times the original £500 target.

It was set up by a group of her friends, Ollie and Sally Guy, Jenna Barnaby and Daniel Parker.

At the time, Ollie, 34, of Bitterne, said: “Charlene was a wonderful girl, kind, caring and non judgmental. She never had a bad word to say about anyone and I've never heard her spoken of in a bad light.

Daily Echo:

“There are so many people who knew Charlene and have nothing but positive things to say about her and you only have to look at Facebook to see how many messages people sent to her family.”
