A SOUTHAMPTON community has rallied around a popular trader whose shop was targeted by an armed robber.

When the London Road community heard tobacconist W White had been robbed they wanted to do something to help shop owner Clive Fogg.

As reported, the 69-yearold’s shop was targeted in January, and Mr Fogg was threatened with a knife by the robber who made off with £200 from the till.

DJ Laz Assiratti, who had been a customer of W White for five years, immediately set about organising a fundraising community event when he heard the news.

Laz said: “Mr Fogg is one of the nicest, down-to-earth gentlemen I have ever met on my travels. I was shocked when I sawthe news that his shop was robbed, he is such a community- minded man. He is a figurehead around here. He greets everyone in the same way.”

The pub quiz and raffle, was held in the Avondale pub in Carlton Crescent, and raised £151.

Mr Fogg said: “I am overwhelmed.

It was unbelievable to see the concern and respect that was given. I am very grateful and touched by it.”

Police are still appealing for information about the robbery, which happened on January 27 at 3.11pm.

The suspect is described as white, 6ft 1ins tall, unshaven with ginger stubble and wearing a black woolly hat, black jacket with a logo and blue jeans. Anyone with information is asked to contact Southampton CID on 101 or the Crimestoppers line on 0800 555 111.
