This year’s club charity motor drive should be a real classic

A HAMPSHIRE-based classic car club is gearing up for an annual charity drive through the county’s leafy lanes.

Members of the Standard Motor Club New Forest Group, which is based at the Bear and Ragged Staff pub at Michelmersh near Romsey, will be polishing up their old cars for the Classic Charity Car Drive on Saturday, April 26.

Organiser Darrell Cunningham, of King’s Somborne, said he hopes that this year’s event will be even more successful than the previous one, which was very popular and is free to take part.

Darrell anticipates that more than 100 cars will be taking part in the Drive It Day rally.

The group will assemble outside the Bear and Ragged Staff at 10am and set off at 11.30am for a leisurely drive through Hampshire and Wiltshire villages.

Prior to departing drivers will have to sign in and will be equipped with a route map and offered bacon butties and coffee.

They are due to arrive back at the Bear and Ragged Staff the next day for a late Sunday lunch.

Darrell explained that donation buckets will be available so that people can put in cash for Naomi House Children’s Hospice at Sutton Scotney.

Anyone who would like to join the rally is asked to email press.standardmotorclub@gmail.com or call Darrell on 01794 389165 or 07773 337583.
