The man accused of killing mum-of-five Pennie Davis allegedly confessed to stabbing her just hours after her murder, a court heard.

Winchester Crown Court heard evidence from Natasha Brook that her friend of almost 20 years, Justin Robertson, told her that he had done “something stupid” on September 2 last year.

Jurors watched a video interview of the 30-year old telling police how Robertson, 36, had visited her home and made the shocking confession.

Robertson, of no fixed address, is charged with murdering 47-year old supermarket worker Pennie while he, Benjamin Carr, 22, of Edward Road, Shirley, and Samantha McClean, 28, of Beech Crescent, Hythe, are all charged with conspiracy to kill her. They all deny the charges.

In the video, mum-of-two Miss Brook, from Holbury, said how she first thought that Robertson was joking because he had a “sick and twisted sense of humour”.

She said: “He said that he had done something stupid. I said: ‘Well what have you done?’ “He said he doesn’t want to tell me because he doesn’t want me to get involved. I said it couldn’t be that bad and he said he had killed someone.”

She added that he told her that he had done it that day and added that “it was close enough” and that she would read about it soon.

Miss Brook claimed he went on to say that the woman he had allegedly killed was someone he had described to her as a ‘paedophile’.

Miss Brook told police he then picked up a knife in her kitchen and said that the knife he used was the same one.

The court heard how after a few calls to various people Miss Brook said Robertson left her house.
