THE former manager of a Southampton city centre shop has been jailed for 21 months after defrauding his bosses out of more than £100,000 in a gift card scam.
The city crown court heard how Taiwo Browne hadn’t put 213 transactions on £500 cards through the till.
He was caught after a colleague at the AllSaints store in the WestQuay complex became suspicious.
An investigation was launched and a study of security camera footage in an audit check showed that Browne was the only person manning the tills at the relevant time.
Recorder Alistair Malcolm QC heard some of the cards were on eBay.
Browne, 37, of Alum Hurst Road, Bournemouth, pleaded guilty to one count of fraud that happened between April and October, 2013.
In mitigation, Jonathan Simpson said Browne was now a boxing trainer looking after people aged from six to 60.
He had not led a lavish lifestyle and hadn’t spent the money on himself, adding that it all went on his children.
