FLIGHTS from Southampton Airport to Amsterdam have been cancelled after a major powercut.

The scheduled 2pm BE1015 and KL2892 flight from Southampton to Schiphol Amsterdam Airport are cancelled after a massive power outage hit the Dutch capital.

The airport was forced to cancel flights after the outage, but Dutch grid operator TenneT said power is now restored to some parts of the region.

The power failure was caused by a technical fault at a substation in the suburb of Diemen.

The scheduled 5.55pm BE1017, EY6142 and KL2894 flight is still expected to go ahead.

A spokesman for Southampton Airport said: "We would recommend customers contact their airline for advice on rebooking their flights."
