Countess opens new Heartbeat centre

A MULTI-MILLION pound state-of-the art cardiac education centre was opened by HRH The Countess of Wessex today.

The new Heartbeat Education Centre, funded by the Southampton-based charity Wessex Heartbeat, was opened by the Countess in front of an audience of invited guests.

Based in the newly-opened North Wing Cardiac Centre at Southampton General Hospital,the education centre will be used to train staff from porters to consultants.

The Countess said: "I have no doubt it's going to have the most amazing effect throughout the Wessex region, throughout the whole UK and beyond our shores as well."

The Countess toured the centre before meeting guests, staff and Heartbeat volunteers.

The Royal party then went on to Chandler's Ford where the Countess officially opened the £6.5 million Brendoncare Knightwood living complex for older people.
