The manager of rock band Blur called yesterday for a re-run of last week's top 40 after sales figures from major retailers were missed off the final countdown.

Mr Chris Morrison, whose act Blur missed out on a top ten place with Coffee And TV, believes the chart released on July 4 did not accurately reflect the band's showing after data from Virgin and Our Price stores were left out.

He told industry magazine Music Week: ''It was completely inaccurate information.

''We lost a third or maybe 40% of our sales by not having information from those shops.''

The problem is understood to have been due to a computer problem with only information from the early part of the week being submitted to the compilers.

The Chart Information Network, which issued the finished chart, did not wish to comment last night.
