A 16-YEAR-OLD youth could not wait for his 17th birthday and a provisional licence to drive the car his father had bought him. Not only could he not wait two days for his birthday to show it off to a friend, but he also drove it while over the alcohol limit.

At Dunfermline Sheriff Court yesterday James Gordon, of Smith Avenue, Cowdenbeath, was fined #250 and banned from driving for two years when he admitted driving the car without permission, without a licence or insurance, and with a blood alcohol level 8mg over the breathalyser limit.
