THE charity Lanarkshire Cancer Care Trust is having to turn away patients because of a cash crisis, it was revealed yesterday. Officials at the charity have launched a public appeal in a bid to rescue it. The trust supplies volunteers to drive around 700 patients to and from their homes each week for treatment at Glasgow's Beatson Hospital.

The drivers use their own cars but the charity pays for the petrol. Mrs Elspeth Russell, the trust's co-ordinator, said: ''We have to find up to #2500 every two weeks to pay for the petrol and we only have four weeks' money left.''
