A FILM showing a schoolgirl giving birth has been viewed more than a million times over the internet.

Leicester's health and council bosses used local actors to make the viral video, and launched it on sites including YouTube and Kontraband in a bid to cut the city's high teen pregnancy rate.

But the clip - called Teenage Kicks - has been seen around the world and become "an internet sensation", featuring on the United States' NBC network and Germany's RTL TV station.

Since its launch on May 14, the film, which shows a girl apparently giving birth on a school playing field, has been watched some 1,432,859 times, its producers said.

In Leicester, around one in 20 girls aged between 15 and 17 becomes pregnant every year.
