THE strengthening of links between education and industry were urged

yesterday by the Scottish Education Minister Lord James

Douglas-Hamilton. Lord James told a conference that more than 80% of

secondary school pupils went on work experience programmes with local

companies, and he praised the hundreds of secondary and primary teachers

who spent time with companies under the auspices of Understanding

British Industry scheme. Lord James made his remarks at a conference in

Edinburgh organised by the chief curriculum advisory body, the Scottish

CCC. He added that commercial sponsorship of teaching resources had

brought impressive results.
