TRIBUTES were today paid to a teenage boy who died after a head-on car crash.

Connor Finlayson, 13, died in hospital following the smash in a remote country road.

He was a passenger in a car being driven by his 30-year-old mother, who was seriously injured.

The accident happened on the A706 Lanark to Forth road in South Lanarkshire at 8.35pm on Easter Monday.

Connor, from Carluke, attended the town's high school. School staff broke the tragic news to youngsters when they returned after their Easter break.

Connor was described as a fairly quiet, thoughtful and popular first-year pupil.

Headteacher Jim Yuille said: "Connor was a very enthusiastic and hard-working member of our multi-families project, where he was always committed to doing the best he could.

"Losing Connor has brought enormous sadness on the whole school.

"Our deepest sympathies and thoughts go out to his family."

The accident happened 300 yards south of the B7056 Yeildshields Road, near Throughburn Cottage.

Connor and his mum were travelling south in a Vauxhall Corsa when it collided head-on with a northbound Seat Toledo.

They were rushed to Wishaw General Hospital, but Connor died a short time later.

His mum suffered leg injuries and is in a serious but stable condition in hospital. The 30-year-old woman driver of the Seat suffered a shoulder injury and is in a stable condition in hospital.

Sergeant Stuart Hunter, of the road policing department at Motherwell police station, urged any witnesses to the crash to call him on 01698 483124.
