THE decision on whether to allow a controversial adventure playground to be created in a Glasgow park will be made next week.

City councillors will visit the site of the proposed Go Ape course in Pollok Park a week today.

They will then return to the City Chambers to hear the arguments for and against the plan before making a decision.

It was agreed to hold the site visit at a meeting of the planning committee earlier this month although no exact date had been fixed until today.

Protest group Save Pollok Park, which has gathered more than 2000 signatures against the plan, says it will have members at the park for the site visit and also outside the City Chambers during the hearing.

Bill Fraser said: "We are asking volunteers to turn up at Pollok Park to make sure the committee members understand the layout of the proposed site and to show the level of support we have."

The applicant, objectors, supporters and councillors will all get a chance to have their say after hearing a presentation from a planning officer.

The application for the aerial course in the park's ancient North Wood has attracted a storm of protest.

Council officers have recommended the plan be approved, despite 881 objections. A total of 148 letters in favour have also been received.

Go Ape wants to create a development including zip wires, rope ladders and bridges.

A city council spokeswoman confirmed the date of the visit and hearing. If passed the plan is likely to be referred to the Scottish Government as the council has a financial interest.
