A UKIP candidate faces an anxious wait to hear whether he has been charged with “bribing” voters with sausage rolls.

Kim Rose appeared at Romsey Police Station this morning for a grilling over the allegations of treating - even taking along Jaffa Cakes for the police officers.

The Southampton Itchen candidate says he must now wait to see if Hampshire Constabulary decides to proceed with charges against him.

As previously reported in the Daily Echo, Mr Rose faced claims that he had handed out the savoury snacks at a party event earlier this year.

The complaint was made after an event in Weston, which also featured veteran snooker star Jimmy White.

Speaking to the Daily Echo Mr Rose said police officers who questioned him had not taken him up on his offer of Jaffa Cakes, and said he had answered “no comment” throughout the interview.

He said: “There's going to be a report done on it, they're going up to the Chief Inspector to decide whether they want to take any further action.

“I offered them Jaffa Cakes but they couldn't possibly take them, so I just hope they didn't take that as a bribe.

“We will see what happens. I can't get disqualified from the election, so I'm still allowed to run whatever happens.”

Mr Rose, a jeweller, will face Conservative Royston Smith, Labour's Rowenna Davis, Green John Spottiswoode, Liberal Democrat Eleanor Bell and Trade Unionist and Socialist Coalition's Sue Atkins at the election on May 7.
