A man has been held by police after a dramatic robbery at a Hampshire bank.

It comes after a robber wrapped in bandages threatening staff and customers at the Lloyds Bank.

He escaped with a substantial amount of cash.

Officers cordoned off the scene of the incident, in Station Road, New Milton, which occurred on Thursday at around 3.30pm, while forensics experts carried out an examination.

Police also conducted a search of the area to try to locate the robber, but no arrests have yet been made.

But today Hampshire police said that a 56-year-old man from New Milton has been arrested on suspicion of robbery.

He remains in police custody.
