FUNDRAISER Laura Smith is preparing for the challenge of her life – by cycling across the country to help the county’s homeless.

The 31-year-old, from Fareham, will cycle from Land’s End to John O’Groats in June to raise cash for homeless charity the Society of St James.

She is cycling up to 50 miles a day as she prepares for the mammoth 1,000-mile cycle and expects to complete the marathon in two weeks.

Laura, who has helped the homeless by donating hundreds of bags of clothing in the past, raised money for the charity last year by taking part in a sponsored sleep on the streets event.

She said: “This year I wanted to do something bigger and someone said doing London to John O’Groats. I wanted to do something out of my comfort zone.

“Training has been up and down. It’s not an easy feat and it’s really tough. It has taken up a lot of dedication.

“A few people have said to me that if I do it they will donate big, so I’m hoping to raise thousands.

“I know a few people who have been homeless. I know charities that have been there for them. For me it’s important because it can happen to anyone. All have different stories. People in relationships that have lost everything, war veterans, it can happen to the richest people. It can happen to anyone.”
