TWO men have been jailed after robbing a man driving back from work and another walking home on the same night.

Keiran West flagged down their first victim Simon MacDonald at the junction of Sandy Lane and Witt Road, Fair Oak, punching him in the face, threatening him with a glass bottle from his car seat and threatening to kill him if he went to the police, a court heard.

A court has previously heard how Mr MacDonald had finished a shift at the Marwell Hotel and stopped because he thought the men in the road were police officers.

He was forced to hand over the front of his stereo and mobile phone in the five- minute ordeal, at about 11pm on March 18 last year, described as “terrifying” by the judge.

James Ball, 22, followed close by so items could be passed to him, and the phone was later found at his grandmother’s house.

Mr MacDonald managed to escape by driving away, Southampton Crown Court heard.

Twenty minutes later, the pair robbed Ian Clark on Summerlands Road, Fair Oak.

West, 21, repeatedly punched and thumped him, demanding his watch.

Ball stood by laughing, telling the victim to hand it over, which he did along with his mobile phone.

Mr Clark suffered a swollen nose, two black eyes, a damaged tooth and cuts and bruises to his body.

Judge Peter Crabtree said that although he had been peripheral and not violent, both victims had been aware of Ball’s presence.

West – whose behaviour was said to be out of character – of Terrier Close, Hedge End, pleaded guilty to two counts of robbery and was given four years and six months imprisonment.

Ball, of Mitchell Drive, Eastleigh, was convicted for the same charges following a trial and sentenced to three years and six months imprisonment.

Both were ordered to pay a victim surcharge of £120.
