A MAN has appeared in court with the murder of a man who died from serious injuries in Southampton.

Adam Dominiak stood in the dock at Southampton Magistrates Court wearing a grey t-shirt and spoke only to confirm his name and his date of birth, through a Polish interpreter.

The 40-year-old, of Malmesbury Road, Shirley, is charged with the murder of Szymon Kalita.

As previously reported, paramedics battled to revive the victim, aged in his 40's, as he was taken out of a flat in Malmesbury Road, on Monday afternoon, but he died later of his injuries.

Dominiak was told that his case was being sent up to Winchester Crown Court, where he must appear for his next hearing on Monday.

It comes after police launched a murder investigation after a man was found with life-threatening injuries at an address in Malmesbury Road. He was later pronounced dead.

John Montague, senior district crown prosecutor for the Crown Prosecution Service in Wessex, said: “I carefully reviewed all the available evidence provided to me by Hampshire Constabulary, and in accordance with the Code for Crown Prosecutors, I am satisfied that there is sufficient evidence for a realistic prospect of conviction and it is in the public interest to prosecute Adam Dominiak for murder.”

As previously reported, police were called to the studio flat shortly after 1pm on Monday and found the victim with life threatening injuries.

The events on Monday May 4 left a community in shock.

Neighbours said those who lived at the property where the drama unfolded kept themselves to themselves.

Residents told how they are struggling to come to terms with what happened so close to them.

An 81-year-old woman living on the road said: “I saw the fellow come out on the stretcher. That was quite shocking – that was real, it wasn’t on television.

“Even if you don’t know somebody it’s still shocking to see that in reality.”
