TWO brothers were jailed for eight months after attacking a Southampton student.

Jack Osman was with friends when one of them received a text message from Dale Gorman who had gone out with the Itchen College student's cousin.

Prosecutor Roderick Blain told the city crown court the victim then spoke to Gorman and they agreed to meet at a recreation ground but Gorman did not turn up.

The group then returned to the college when Gorman and his elder brother Damian suddenly approached them. Dale Gorman asked “Who's Jack?” and after he had been identified, began punching him.

The student was knocked to the floor where he was kicked and punched before a project manager came on the scene, shouted, and the pair drove off.

Damian Gorman, 27, and Dale Gorman, both of Mullen Close, Southampton, admitted causing actual bodily harm.

Jessica Clarke, defending, submitted it had been a pre-arranged meeting between them and the student had come off worse. “The parties went out looking for a scuffle and that's what they got”

Passing sentence, Judge Peter Henry described the assaults as “unpleasant and unacceptable.”

Both brothers had previous convictions for violence.
