WINCHESTER charity group members have been hugging, fist-bumping and giving words of encouragement in memory of a very special man.

Fixers gathered at the Buttercross in High Street to launch National Good Gestures Day – the brainchild of former fixer Stephen Sutton, whose goodwill and positivity made the headlines in 2014.

The19-year-old raised millions for teenage cancer research in the days leading to his death through a social media campaign by doing acts of kindness.

Now Wintonians are dedicated to continue his legacy by shaking the hands of strangers and spreading positive thoughts during what they hope will become a national celebration.

Gemma McKenna, lead for policy and research at Fixers, said: “It’s about having a massive event across 15 cities in memory of the late Stephen Sutton, who was a fixer, and ran a massive campaign a few days before he died through random acts of kindness.

"It was his wish that this National Good Gestures Day carried on. The aim is to give as many hugs in his name and spread kindness.”
