IT is simply the best and biggest copycat music show on the south coast.

Hundreds of music fans converged on Eastleigh as some of the world’s finest tribute acts saluted a galaxy of multi-million selling recording stars.

It is five years ago that The Concorde Club launched PhoneyFEST and it has become so popular that a fourth day has been added.

With nearly 40 tribute acts spread over the Bank Holiday there was more than enough to whet all musical appetites from the King of Rock, Elvis to soul legend Amy Winehouse.

This marathon salute to the chartbusting superstars was as near as you could get to the real thing.

Main sponsors were the Snows Group and the glittering tribute line-up included Abba, Showaddywaddy, Black Eyed Peas, Madness, Gary Barlow, Oasis, Kaiser Chiefs, Blondie, Michael Jackson, Take That, One Direction, Little Mix, Robbie Williams, George Michael and Lady Gaga.

It has become such a permanent fixture on the festival circuit that PhoneyFEST has its own T-shirt.

And it turned into a pop and Pimms party in the sun kissed idyllic grounds of the Stoneham Lane club.

Daily Echo:

They danced around the tables and ice bukcets as they paid homage to the biggest names in the popular music world.

Beryl Sharp, of Hedge End, who has been to every PhoneyFEST, said: “It just gets better and better. The standard is brilliant. Everyone is so good that it is hard to judge.”

The Concorde’s Jamie Mathieson, the driving force behind PhoneyFEST, is delighted with the way the event has grown.

He said: “People come from far and wide and the club’s hotel is full. It is a bit of fun and people like to compare the tribute acts with the real thing.”

Later Jamie took centre stage as he played the role of Sonny, linking up with Cher (Laura Jane Butler) for the legendary pop duo’s iconic hit, I Got You Babe.

It was not long before the very talented Laura Jane was back on stage as the UK’s number one Amy Winehouse tribute. She bears an uncanny resemblance to the soul superstar who died four years ago.

Daily Echo: Terry Nash as Meatloaf.

Daily Echo:

There was a real treat for Meat Loaf fans with TV’s Stars In Their Eyes winner Terry Nash. The trademark red scarf was wrapped around his wrist as he gave an electrifying performance of Bat Out Of Hell.

Daily Echo:

Another Stars In Their Eyes victor Darren Alboni (above) gave his award winning version of Simply Red’s Mick Hucknall. Elvis and Roy Orbison are also part of the versatile Darren’s pop tribute portfolio.

There was a chance for festival goers to have stars in their eyes with Rockaoke sessions.

Later they were able to sleep under the stars with Glamping – luxury tents – provided in the festival grounds.
